Remnants 2 is a continuation of a series I did called Remnants from 2015 to 2018. Ideas of abandonment, impermanence, and decay are undercurrents of the work in both series. But Remnants 1 had an impersonal, ephemeral and spiritual quality expressed through light that I have replaced in Remnants 2 with a more personal, emotional, and dramatic vision created through a darker palette and mood. As an artist and a member of society, I'm made up of both the impersonal and personal. The spiritual is often experienced as greater than the personal, but the personal cannot be negated, so it makes sense to support those first luminous images with a new series that is more tangible.
